Jeevan Bikas Samaj is partnering with the UNESCO Nepal, Kathmandu office on the climate change education for sustainable development (CCESD) at the local school level in the Morang District. A district level training/best practices sharing workshop organized on climate change education on 9th December, 2014. More than 25 participants; head teachers, parents, students as well as school stakeholders attended from different schools.
The district level workshop introduced good climate-friendly practices already carried out in the school level. Mr. Yogendra Mandal from the Jeevan Bikas Samaj shared basic information on climate change and what kind of no-cost/low-cost activities can be planned. Mr Damodar Regmi also gave a presentation on education for sustainable development emphasizing the links between ecological, social, economic and cultural aspects.
A few schools presented their activities including an awareness raising campaign on climate change education. Every schools representative shared their best experiences like; Green Club and promotion of agricultural activities, tree planting and kitchen gardens etc. Mr Ajay Kumar Mandal, Head Teacher of Jeevan Bikas Public School also shared in a session on their best and unique practices.
Similarly, head teachers from some schools prepared a progress sheet and future plan with; next phase for the participating schools is to plan their own activities on climate change education. Nepal distance calculator Mr Sanjaya Kumar Mandal also shared future aim and plan to do activities with partnership of JBS and other partner community schools. Mr. Om Sharma, consultant of JBS also facilitated on the workshop.IMG_6999
